Let Me Introduce Myself.
I am Father Jorge Alfonso Román Del Real. My friends call me "Disney" ever since I was in the seminary. I have been blessed at being appointed as a Parochial Administrator here at St Joseph’s Church in Mammoth Lakes and the Missions of Our Savior of the Mountains in Lee Vining and The Infant of Prague in Bridgeport. I am eager to place myself at your service.
I was born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 9, 1954. I am the youngest of three brothers and one sister. My parents, Asunción and Jorge, are enjoying the Glory of God in Heaven; they are originally from Tlaltenango de Sánchez Román, Zacatecas. My brother Jairo Arturo is the Pastor at the Parish of Santa María Tomatlán located south of Mexico City. My brother Sergio Guillermo is a Canon at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City and the Pastor at the Sacred Heart Church in Colonia Valle Gomez. My sister Estrellita Del Carmen is a teacher, but her spirit of service and giving has been a big influence in my life.
Ever since I was a little child I got used to seeing my brothers in the Seminary and it came as a natural thought to become a Priest to celebrate a three Priest Mass with my brothers. With that idea I entered the Minor Seminary at the age of 12, but at the end of the year I got kicked out for failing math and getting a low GPA. Very disappointed, I went into middle school and high school living in my parents house; I went through my stages of teen age rebel and even being an atheist, but the last year of my high school, I felt the vocational call and entered the Major Seminary to study Philosophy, at the end of my philosophical studies, I left the Seminary and traveled around the United States singing and dancing with the musical group Up With People! During that year of amazing experiences, my vocation got stronger and I returned to the Seminary to finish my studies of Theology and was ordained at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City on June 6, 1981.
My interest for the Mass Media lead me to obtain my license as a radio broadcaster and work at XEW with several radio programs during my first three years as a priest.
In 1985 I joined the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, CA to study Film Production at Loyola Marymount University, Graduating with a Masters in Communication Arts in 1990. During my student time I served for a year at Holy Cross Church in Moorpark and 8 years at Saint Emydius in Lynwood. During this time I produced some movies and participated in many TV shows.
After 9 years of celebrating Spanish Masses in the U.S, I was called to celebrate English Masses in Mexico City at Saint Patrick’s Church. Two years later, I joined the Archdiocese of San Francisco where I served for eleven years.
Now The Lord has given me the chance to join the Diocese of Stockton since August 1, 2008 that I was appointed as a Parochial Vicar in Our Lady Of Fatima Church in Modesto where I found a very lovely Community that welcome me with a warm and friendly heart. After six months, I was appointed as Parochial Vicar at Saint Bernard in Tracy, where I spend four and a half years serving a community with thousands of parishioners who became my very good friends. At the same time, I am very grateful for the privilege of coming to serve here at St. Joseph’s Church and I am willing to give the best of me.
I am a priest 24 hours a day, but I am a friend 25 hours. I never refuse to talk to anyone, even though sometimes I will have to use my agenda to give you an appointment if I can't help you at the moment. I have never had parishioners, but friends that I love and keep for life. I have always wanted to be the Priest that I would have wanted to meet, even though maybe I am far from being the Priest that God would want me to be.
Coming to this Parish, means a new opportunity for me to make new friends who I want to serve and love with all my heart.
I told God 32 years ago when I was ordained the same thing that I say to Him today:
Here I am, Oh Lord, to fulfill your will.
Just let me bloom wherever you plant me.
Rev. Jorge Alfonso Román Del Real
Parochial Administrator
Editor's Note: On September 1, 2017, Fr. Román was officially promoted to Pastor.
