Fr. Savage started daily 7:00 AM Mass in the Rectory because he didn't want to pay to heat up the church every morning. Fr. Andy shared that view and continued Mass in the Rectory once Fr. Savage retired. Fr. Andy celebrated Mass at the dining room table and started the tradition of inviting everyone to stay for coffee after Mass. When Fr. Paul arrived, he placed an altar in front of the living room fireplace where the weekday Mass has been offered ever since. Fr. Jorge continued the unique local tradition until February 15, 2019, after which the weekday Mass was changed to 6:00 PM in the church. Over the years, the intimate 7:00 AM Mass in the St Joseph Rectory developed a small but devoted following. After Mass, those who didn't have to hustle off to work or ski would hang out at the dining room table and share a cup of coffee with the pastor. All the world's problems were solved there. That time built the Body of Christ in a special way in Mammoth Lakes and was a source of developing many relationships in the Parish. In a parish with a very small local population, the socialization after Mass was a special time for Mammoth locals to welcome and get to know many second homeowners and visitors.
