Come and participate in a historical, spiritual event that will offer an excellent opportunity to embrace this Holy Week and better prepare for Easter! Enjoy wonderful company and food. The Diocese of Stockton is very pleased to announce that on January 23, 2018, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Myron Cotta to succeed Bishop Stephen Blaire as Bishop of Stockton who submitted his resignation to the Holy Father when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 on December 22, 2016. Bishop Cotta was born of Portuguese heritage in the Merced County community of Dos Palos on March 21, 1953. As a native son of the Central Valley he knows the area very well and in turn is well known for his pastoral leadership. He served as Vicar General in the Diocese of Fresno where he was a priest and most recently served as Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Sacramento. The Diocese of Stockton embraces more than 10,000 square miles covering the Counties of San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mono, and Alpine, with a diverse Catholic population of over 300,000 people of many races and cultures. The Diocese of Stockton extends a very warm welcome to Bishop Myron Cotta. On Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of Stockton, the Diocesan Priests and Deacons will gather together in prayer for our new Bishop. Also on Wednesday March 14, at 7:00 PM, the Prayer Group in our Parish of Saint Joseph will devote one hour of prayer for our new Bishop. On Thursday, March 15, at 2:00 PM, the installation of our new Bishop will take place at St. Stanislaus Church in Modesto, CA. The campaign for the Diocese of Stockton Bishop's Ministry Appeal is in full swing. The budget of the Diocese of Stockton for this year is $2,300,000 to cover expenses on education and formation of Seminarians, Deacons, Catechists, various Pastoral Ministries including immigrant services, etc. Every Parish of the Stockton Diocese contributes according their ability.
