On Behalf of Bishop Myron J. Cotta:
SENT INTO THE WORLD
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Together, let us do our part in supporting World Mission Sunday. As Pope Francis reminds us:
Living in a Missionary Key-
“The disciples are urged to live their personal lives in a missionary key- they are sent by Jesus to the world not only to carry out, but also and above all to live the mission entrusted to them; not only to bear witness, but also and above all to be witnesses of Christ.”
Every Christian’s Calling-
“Every Christian is called to be missionary and witness to Christ. And the Church, the community of Christ’s disciples, has no other mission than that of bringing the Gospel to the entire world by bearing witness to Christ. To evangelize is the very identity of the Church.” - Pope Francis, World Mission Sunday 2022
Teacher of Evangelization-
The New Evangelization is the context for missionary discipleship and begins with the encounter with Jesus. We look to Jesus, the master who personally forms his apostles and disciples. Christ himself teaches us how to evangelize, how to invite people into communion with him, and how to create a culture of witness: namely, through love, mercy, and joy. Christ gives us the method: Come and see (Jn 1:39); Follow me (Mt 9:9); Remain in me (Jn 15:4-6); Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19). - “Living as Missionary Disciples” (USCCB, 2017)
Recognition of the Spirit-
“All Christ’s missionary disciples are called to recognize the essential importance of the Spirit’s work, to dwell in his presence daily and to receive his unfailing strength and guidance. Indeed, it is precisely when we feel tired, unmotivated or confused that we should remember to have recourse to the Holy Spirit in prayer.” - Pope Francis, World Mission Sunday 2022
Come Holy Spirit, enkindle within us the missionary fire of your Love!
In the Peace of Christ,
Bishop Cotta
