Bishop’s Monthly Reflection
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we find ourselves “on the heels” of the recent consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we are reminded that May is dedicated to Our Lady as our Blessed Mother. On Mothers’ Day, the second Sunday of May, we express our love and gratefulness for motherhood. It is a special day when we show our thankfulness for the gift of life, and the love we have received from our mothers throughout our lives.
Also, within the providential love of Our Lord, Jesus chose the month of May to send his Mother to share with the shepherd children of Fátima in 1917, his message of peace for the Church and the world. It is because of her bidding, that we have consecrated Russia and Ukraine, and the whole world, to her Immaculate Heart. Pope Francis’ desire for the Church to join him in this consecration, is not to be seen, solely, as a pious gesture soon to be forgotten. We are called to continue to fulfill Our Lady’s request to pray the Rosary for peace and for the conversion of sinners.
Our Heavenly Mother, Our Lady of the Rosary, stresses the importance of praying the Rosary daily and to commit to the First Saturday Devotion to her Immaculate Heart. Her instruction was not only to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart, but, also, to engage our hearts in this special devotion to her Maternal Heart. She assured the shepherd children, and assures us, that if this was practiced, there would, and will be peace; and in the end, her Immaculate Heart will triumph!
Let us commit to Our Blessed Mother’s desire, God’s heavenly remedy, which she proclaimed to the children of Fátima. Let us take up the Rosary during this month of May. As a family, make it a point to set up a special prayer space in the home, within the domestic church, and pray the Rosary together during this month of May. Be it in the home or within faith formation classes, we are to teach our children to become familiar with the Rosary and become disciples of the Rosary.
I challenge all, during the month of May, to become familiar with the message of Fátima and the six apparitions of Our Lady. Allow the message to serve as a means to catechize the family. The teaching of the Trinity, the Eucharist, the Gospel, Heaven/Purgatory/Hell, morals and virtues, and the power of prayer and penance is all-encompassing in this “school of Mary.” If you, as an individual or as a family, are seeking to be evangelized and are desiring to be formed anew in the Faith, look no further than the evangelical message of Fátima. The Message of Fátima can play a key role in opening the door to the New Evangelization and Family Catechesis!
As mother, Our Lady taught and formed her children and pupils well. Lúcia, Jacinta and Francisco, through the gifts of grace and mercy, came to know the depths of the mysteries of faith. So, too, can we!
Lord Jesus, we thank you for your Mother Mary and ask that you bless all mothers, especially, those who have gone before us. May they know your love and mercy.

Reflexión del Obispo
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Al encontrarnos inmediatamente después de la reciente consagración de Rusia y Ucrania al Inmaculado Corazón de María, se nos recuerda que mayo está dedicado a Nuestra Señora como nuestra Santísima Madre. En el Día de las Madres, el segundo domingo de mayo, expresamos nuestro amor y agradecimiento por la maternidad. Es un día especial en el que mostramos nuestro agradecimiento por el don de la vida y el amor que hemos recibido de nuestras madres a lo largo de nuestra vida.
También, dentro del amor providencial de Nuestro Señor, Jesús eligió el mes de mayo para enviar a su Madre a compartir con los niños pastores de Fátima en 1917, su mensaje de paz para la Iglesia y el mundo. Es por su orden, que hemos consagrado a Rusia y Ucrania, y al mundo entero, a su Inmaculado Corazón. El deseo del Papa Francisco de que la Iglesia se una a él en esta consagración, no debe ser visto, únicamente, como un gesto piadoso que pronto será olvidado. Estamos llamados a seguir cumpliendo la petición de Nuestra Señora de rezar el Rosario por la paz y por la conversión de los pecadores.
Nuestra Madre Celeste, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, enfatiza la importancia de rezar el Rosario diariamente y comprometerse con la Devoción del Primer Sábado a su Inmaculado Corazón. Su instrucción no fue sólo consagrar Rusia a su Inmaculado Corazón, sino también, comprometer nuestros corazones en esta devoción especial a su Corazón Materno. Ella aseguró a los niños pastores, y nos asegura, que, si esto se practicaba, habría, y habrá paz; y al final, ¡su Inmaculado Corazón triunfará!
Comprometámonos al deseo de Nuestra Santísima Madre, el remedio celestial de Dios, que ella proclamó a los niños de Fátima. Tomemos el Rosario durante este mes de mayo. Como familia, asegúrese de establecer un espacio especial de oración en el hogar, dentro de la iglesia doméstica, y recen el Rosario juntos durante este mes de mayo. Ya sea en el hogar o dentro de las clases de formación en la fe, debemos enseñar a nuestros hijos a familiarizarse con el Rosario y convertirse en discípulos del Rosario.
Desafío a todos, durante el mes de mayo, a familiarizarse con el mensaje de Fátima y las seis apariciones de Nuestra Señora. Permita que el mensaje sirva como un medio para catequizar a la familia. La enseñanza de la Trinidad, la Eucaristía, el Evangelio, Cielo/Purgatorio/Infierno; la moral y virtudes; y el poder de la oración y la penitencia lo abarca todo en esta "escuela de María". Si ustedes, como individuos o como familia, buscan ser evangelizados y desean formarse de nuevo en la fe, no busque más que en el mensaje evangélico de Fátima. ¡El Mensaje de Fátima puede jugar un papel clave en abrir la puerta a la Nueva Evangelización y Catequesis Familiar! Como madre, Nuestra Señora enseñó y formó bien a sus hijos y alumnos. Lúcia, Jacinta y Francisco, a través de los dones de la gracia y la misericordia, llegaron a conocer las profundidades de los misterios de la fe. ¡Nosotros también podemos!
Señor Jesús, te damos gracias por tu Madre María y te pedimos que bendigas a todas las madres, especialmente, a las que nos han precedido. Que conozcan tu amor y misericordia.
