Dear Youth, As you enjoy these summer months, I entrust all of you to the care and protection of Our Lord Jesus. I want to encourage you to stay close to him during the summer. Summer is not intended to take a vacation away from our faith nor our relationship with Christ.
One sure way that he wants to have an ongoing relationship with you is in the Eucharist, Holy Communion. Do not deprive yourselves of his Presence during your summer break. Attend Mass with your family in order to thank him for all he is doing for you. Discern what you are called to do for him and for those around you. Get involved in your parish. Take the initiative!
I especially reach out to all of you who have recently been confirmed throughout our Diocese of Stockton. For the past three months, I have had the opportunity to visit you, your sponsors, parents, family and friends who love and have supported you over the years. I am grateful to them for supporting you in your desire to receive the “out pouring” of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. As I mentioned to all of you, I pray that you be opened to the “gifts and fruits” of the Holy Spirit, your Helper. He is there for you!
Remember: you are called to be “disciples” of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will empower you to follow him and to “renew the face of the earth.” Be assured of my prayers and ongoing support!
